Sam Bruehl is a Senior Advisor at BanyanGlobal who counsels client families on governance, business family relationships, ownership, succession, and transition planning. He is also the Business Development Manager.
Sam’s first experience in family business came during high school when he worked in the U.S. office of his uncle’s German-based automotive parts business. Sam reported to his cousin, who was sharing the role of president with his father, Sam’s uncle. The challenges and tensions between his cousin and uncle as they struggled to define their roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities as co-leaders in the family business generated Sam’s interest in family business.
Sam started his career as a consultant with the Public Consulting Group, a public sector consulting firm, where he helped clients align their organizations’ operations with state and federal regulations. At the time, he implemented large projects, guided cross-functional client teams through reviews of their operational practices, and advised clients on strategies to comply with government regulations, particularly in health care and education.
He also managed a client portfolio where he was responsible for existing projects, for cultivating client relationships, and for finding new project opportunities. He specialized in operations management and applying technological solutions to support clients in streamlining their operations and business practices.
He holds a BA in Government International Relations from Clark University, graduating cum laude. He later earned an MBA with Honors from Clark University’s Graduate School of Management, where he concentrated in Organizational Behavior and Management.
