Rob Lachenauer is Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Banyan. Throughout his career advising business-owning families, Rob has been fascinated by both the complexity and the wisdom of family owner groups. In client relationships, Rob listens, learns, and advises the owner group on how to wisely make difficult decisions together. Rob’s expertise is in Owner Strategy and Four-Room governance. He has personally worked with more than 25 family owner groups.

Rob has co-authored two books, the Harvard Business Review Family Business Handbook and Hardball: Are You Playing to Play or Playing to Win? among many other articles published in Harvard Business Review, Trust & Estates Magazine, and Family Business Magazine. During Rob’s leadership tenure, STEP has named Banyan as the top family advisory firm in the world three times. Before Banyan, he attended Harvard Business School then joined Boston Consulting Group. Rob is a proud father of three wonderful daughters. He lives with his awesome wife, dog, and two cats in Boston, Massachusetts. He is allergic to cats, however.

Fun Facts:

  • After his third daughter’s birth, Rob needed to make a choice to be either an all-in BCG partner or a great dad. He chose the dad track. Committed to both family and business, he eventually co-founded BanyanGlobal.
  • Rob is co-inventor on several US patents.
