Amedeo Papa

Senior Banyan Affiliate

Amedeo Papa is a Senior Banyan Affiliate with BanyanGlobal. He is an independent consultant who works with Banyan on individual projects where the client can benefit from his expertise. Amedeo is the founder and manager of Pracis, a Brazilian consultancy that helps family businesses to work through challenges, including family relationships and succession planning. He brings deep personal insight into these challenges, having served as an executive of the bank once owned by his family, where he became director at an early age because his father, then the CEO of the institution, became ill and eventually passed away. After economic turmoil in Brazil and the failure of a merger with a foreign partner, Amedeo took over the task of winding down the bank and negotiate with all its creditors.

After that painful experience, he worked in many sectors and projects, gaining leadership experience as a Director of several large companies including JHSF (real estate), Alvarez and Marsal (consulting) and IBM (IT).

In 2015, Amedeo founded Pracis to offer his experience to families and organizations. Since then, he has been advised many families and companies in search of better governance, decision making and communication. He is the co-author of the following books:
“Aspectos Relevantes da Empresa Familiar”, “Família Empresária e Empresas Familiares: Governança e Planejamento Jurídico e Sucessório”.

Amedeo has a BA in FGV-SP and PUC-SP, an MBA from Universidade Bocconi (Itália) and HEC (Paris), and is also a lawyer. He speaks fluent Portuguese, English, French and Italian. He is mentor, on pro bono basis, of startup accelerator Quintessa, which supports companies that are committed to social impact. He is also a member of the advisory board of Cause and of the Center for Dispute Resolution of CCBC, and is an affiliated consultant of FBN (Family Business Network).

An avid runner, in 2022 he qualified the famous Boston Marathon, which he plans to run in 2023. He enjoys football (soccer to you Americans!), is fan of Palmeiras football club, and loves skiing.

Amedeo lives in São Paulo, enjoys traveling, reading and sharing time with his wife, Daniela, and their three children
