Stephan Roche is a strategic advisor to family offices and their leadership. He has served as CEO of Walton Enterprises, the family office for the Walton family, and as COO for BMGI (now called Cascade Asset Management), the private investment office for Bill Gates and the Gates Foundation. He works with Banyan as an independent consultant supporting our clients who can benefit from his expertise.
Earlier in his career, Roche held executive leadership positions in several FinTech startup ventures including ShareBuilder Corporation which was acquired by ING DIRECT. Prior to that, he spent seven years in San Francisco at Bain & Company, the strategy consulting firm.
Roche currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board of Sequoia Consulting Group based in San Mateo, CA. Past board seats include Guidant Financial Group and Balance Financial, both based in Kirkland, WA. He’s also served as Board Chair of Summer Search Seattle, a nonprofit organization that helps underserved youth get to and through college.
Roche graduated from Princeton University and earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He began his career with Procter & Gamble in brand management.
Roche now lives in downtown Seattle with his wife Catherine, an art historian and President of the Board of Trustees of the Seattle Art Museum. She also serves as a Trustee of the National Museum of Asian Art, a Smithsonian Museum on the National Mall in Washington, DC. They are proud parents of 24-year-old triplets.
