Stephen Salley, a Partner Emeritus at BanyanGlobal, has more than 35 years experience as a tax attorney and family business consultant. He specialized in helping clients understand how their estate and tax planning and trust administration impact the ownership and management of their family businesses. Having grown up in a family business, Steve brings a passionate advocacy to the opportunities and the difficulties facing business families. He was a certified tax attorney for 25 years, before he left the practice of law in 2004 and with his colleague JoEllen Ross joined GenSpring Family Offices as, one of the nation’s largest multi-family offices, as the firm’s Chief Fiduciary Officer and Co-Director of GenSpring’s Family Business Center.
Throughout his career, Steve published regularly in legal journals, was a popular continuing education speaker, and was a frequent contributor to the Leimberg Newsletter, a nation-wide forum for thought leadership in taxation and fiduciary management. His writing addresses the many issues that fall at the intersection of trust and tax law and family business. An avid outdoorsman, he has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, hiked the Appalachian Trail, and canoed Northern Canada. He lives in Orlando, Florida.
