Stephen Salley, a Partner Emeritus at BanyanGlobal, is a tax attorney and family business consultant with more than 35 years of experience. He specializes in helping clients understand how their estate and tax planning and trust administration impact the ownership and management of their family businesses.

He was a certified tax attorney for 25 years, most recently a Senior Shareholder at the national law firm of Greenberg Traurig. He left the practice of law in 2004 and with his colleague JoEllen Ross joined GenSpring Family Offices, one of the nation’s largest multi-family offices. As that firm’s Chief Fiduciary Officer and Co-Director of GenSpring’s Family Business Center, he deepened his expertise in family business ownership issues.

Having grown up in a family business, Steve brings a passionate advocacy to the opportunities and the difficulties facing business families. From his own experience, he understands how family dynamics and the highly technical financial, tax and estate structures of family enterprises mutually influence each other.

Steve publishes regularly in legal journals, is a popular continuing education speaker, and is a frequent contributor to the Leimberg Newsletter, a nation-wide forum for thought leadership in taxation and fiduciary management. His writing addresses the many issues that fall at the intersection of trust and tax law and family business.

Steve received his BA at Harvard College and both his JD and Master of Law in Taxation from the University of Florida. An avid outdoorsman, he has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, hiked the Appalachian Trail, and canoed Northern Canada. He lives in Orlando, Florida.
