Carol Hannigan is a Principal at BanyanGlobal. As an advisor, attorney, and former family office executive, Carol helps and empowers owners of complex family enterprises, which often include family offices, to manage through conflict and make great decisions together as stewards of their financial and human capital. Her expertise includes helping families use their governance, trust and estate planning and administration, succession planning, and next generation education as effective tools to sustain their family enterprises for the benefit of current and future generations.

Since joining Banyan, Carol has spoken and written on family office topics. She has held sessions at the Institute for Family Governance and Family Office Exchange (FOX). She’s been published in Family Business Magazine for her co-authored article Is It Time to Sell the Family Business?

Prior to Banyan, Carol was President and General Counsel of Moreland Wealth Services Corporation, a single-family office. Earlier in her career, she advised family business owners, investors, developers, and fund managers on a broad range of legal matters involving real estate, private equity investments, tax, trust, and estate planning, and was a Partner at Hale and Dorr LLP (now Wilmer Hale).

A long-time resident of Marblehead, Massachusetts Carol loves sailing and skiing with her friends and family.

Fun facts:

  • Carol lived and learned in Istanbul, Turkey for a year as an exchange student, including honing her bargaining skills with the local merchants and learning to play backgammon.
  • Carol is an avid reader and belongs to two book groups.
